The Martha Graham Dance Company, The Next 90
347 people pledged $32,835 to support this project on Kickstarter.
Considered one of the greatest creative innovators of the twentieth century, choreographer Martha Graham founded a company in 1926 that would reshape the trajectory of modern dance for generations to come. For their 90th anniversary season, the Martha Graham Dance Company used Kickstarter to re-stage classic choreographies that hadn’t been seen in years, and to commission new works by some of today’s most influential choreographers. In exchange for their support, Kickstarter backers were invited to engage with the Company behind the scenes. They attended rehearsals, took classes on technique, delved into the Graham archives, and explored her decades-long collaboration with sculptor Isamu Noguchi, who created stage designs to complement many of Graham’s cutting-edge dances.
