Inspired by the music and architecture of New Orleans, the Music Box Village is “a place where play, imagination, experimentation, collaboration, community, and tons of hard work come together.” Formed by artists Delaney Martin, Taylor Shepherd, Jay Pennington, and Swoon, it began as a roving installation of interactive “musical houses” crafted from recycled materials. In 2016, they joined forces with over 700 backers on Kickstarter — as well as 126 artists, musicians, and builders — to create a lasting home for the internationally celebrated and locally beloved public art project. Over 15,000 people attended the opening season, which featured performances by Gogol Bordello, Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tank and the Bangas, the Lost Bayou Ramblers, and many more.
