Seven Magic Mountains
Ugo Rondinone and Art Production Fund / Nevada Museum of Art
258 people pledged $64,205 to support this project on Kickstarter
Punctuating the Las Vegas desert with a dramatic burst of color, Seven Magic Mountains is a monumental public artwork by Ugo Rondinone that explores, in his words, “continuities and solidarities between human and nature, artificial and natural, then and now.” Using Kickstarter, the Art Production Fund and Nevada Museum of Art rallied a community to help them realize Rondinone’s bold vision: to stack locally-sourced limestone boulders — each weighing around 40,000 pounds — into a series of 30-foot-tall, fluorescent rainbow towers. Located a short distance from where Michael Heizer and Jean Tinguely made some of their most iconic desert interventions in the 1960s, Seven Magic Mountains is one of the largest works of land art created in the past 40 years.
